Tšepang Sello leads the nominees for the inaugural Lesotho Annaul Sport Awards
The final nominees for the first-ever Lesotho Annual Sport Awards have been announced and middle distance runners Tšepang Sello and Badboy Toka headline the finalists with three nominations each.

Sello and Toka are followed by cyclists Teboho Khantsi and Phetetso Monese, footballer Boitumelo Rabale, dancesport star Itumeleng Maseatile and middle distance prodigy Manqabang Tsibela who have two nominations each.

The Lesotho Annual Sport Awards will be held on March 18 at Avani Maseru and the ACE-The Sufferfest Lesotho MTB teammates Khantsi and Monese will go head-to-head for Sportsman of the Year along with Toka while the Sportswoman accolade will be contested by Sello, Rabale and Maseatile.

The main prize of the ceremony will be the Sports Star of the Year where five athletes have been nominated in a competitive line-up.

The nominees include the 19 year-old Sello who competed at the Rio Olympics last August. Sello is also nominated for the Junior Female Sportsperson award.

Also nominated for the Sports Star of the Year is Rabale who captained the Bloemfontein Celtic women’s side to the national title in South Africa in 2016 and Monese who last year became the first Lesotho cyclist to qualify for the Olympic Games.

The other nominees are Toka who won gold in the 3000 and 5000 metres at the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Under-20 Games in Angola in December. Another strong contender is Tsibela who was one of the stars of those Region 5 Games scooping two gold medals in the 1500 and 3000 metres. Tsibela also won gold in the 3000 metres at the COSSASA games last May. Khantsi and Maseatile round out the nominees for the Sports Star of the Year which will be voted for by the public.
