| Punishment looms for Matlama |
Matlama face
possible sanctions after Tse Putsoa fans
disrupted their team’s Vodacom Premier League match against Lioli on Sunday at
Setsoto Stadium. Lioli were leading 2-1 with two minutes left on the clock when Matlama
supporters descended onto the pitch and caused the game to be stopped. Matlama
fans apparently felt they should have been awarded a penalty.
It is the second instance of crowd
disturbance in the league already this season.
In September,
Bantu fans attacked match assessor Moeketsi Moholobela following the team’s 1-0
defeat to Kick4Life at LCS Stadium.
Bantu were
later fined M20 000, half of which was suspended for the rest of the season,
and ordered to play one match behind closed doors. The Premier League is likely
to decide the outcome of the match between Lioli and Matlama on Tuesday.
Sunday also
saw two other games postponed because of heavy rain as a double header at the
LCS Stadium featuring Likhopo against LCS and Sky Battalion against Bantu was
washed off.
In the end, only
two Vodacom Premier League games were played on Sunday as Butha-Buthe Warriors
drew 0-0 with Sundawana and Linare drew 1-1 with LMPS in a double header in
Maputsoe.
All of it
means Kick4Life are sitting pretty with a six-point lead at the top of the
Vodacom Premier League thanks to a 2-0 win over Rovers on Saturday.
Kick4Life’s
victory in Roma was clinched by goals from Morapeli Lesoetsa and Thabiso Brown
and it secured top spot for the fourth successive week.
Rovers had
gone into the game with confidence after last weekend’s 2-1 win over champions
Lioli and they were hopeful of another positive result to move them further
away from danger. However, Kick4Life had other ideas and Leslie Notši’s charges
were in front within 12 minutes thanks to Lesoetsa.
Kick4Life
controlled proceedings and could have doubled their lead on the stroke of
halftime when Bokang Mothoana hit the crossbar. That close shave didn’t matter
however as Brown sealed the result in the 76th minute. It was Brown’s eighth goal
of the season and it sees him top the league’s goal-scorer’s charts.
There was also
joy for LDF in the only other match played on Saturday as Sohle-Sohle beat Liphakoe 2-0 at Ratjomose. It was LDF’s fourth win
in succession and lifted them into third place, six points behind Kick4Life and
right back into the title conversation.
LDF’s goals
came courtesy of winger Tšeliso Phera and evergreen striker Mojela Letsie.
LDF’s four-match winning streak is the longest such run in the league. In fact,
Motheo Mohapi’s troops haven’t lost since a 1-0 loss to Lioli in September. Sohle-Sohle
are unbeaten in the seven games since that defeat to Lioli and they could turn
out to be a dark horse in what is looking like an unpredictable title race.
