Lesotho Cricket Premier League changes format

40 overs is now 35...
The Lesotho Cricket Premier League has announced it will reduce its annual 40-Over championship from 40 overs to 35. The league says the move is an effort to improve the standard of cricket in the country.

This year’s championship will be contested by five teams – the National University of Lesotho, Vampires, Bails, Tigers, Lerotholi Polytechnic and Linare cricket clubs. Machabeng College cricket club did not confirm their participation for this year’s tournament.

There will also be awards for the tournament’s best bowler and batsman.

The Cricket Premier League says it hopes to return to the 40-over format next year.

To football and Sundawana captain Johannes ‘Mathoho’ Molapo is recovering well after fracturing his leg in a Vodacom Premier League tie at the start of the month.

Molapo suffered the injury in a 2-0 loss to Lioli on October 8.

He has been ruled out of action for the remainder of the first round but the Lesotho Under-20 defender is expected to make a full recovery and return to action in the New Year.

Finally, this weekend’s crunch Vodacom Premiership tie between champions Lioli and Matlama at Setsoto Stadium has been moved from Saturday to Sunday. The date has been changed because the stadium is booked for Saturday.

The clash will be a hotly contested affair as usual between Lesotho’s most supported sides. Lioli, in fifth place with 14 points, will be looking to bounce back from their shock 2-1 loss to Rovers this past Sunday. On the other hand, Matlama, who are third with 15 points, will be out to keep their impressive unbeaten start to the league season intact.
