Lioli's rise, and rise

It’s Lioli’s time to shine right now. Three successive victories, the latest of which was a 4-0 win over Mphatlalatsane on Sunday, sees Tse Nala one point off leaders LDF, and Lioli have a game in hand.

They are perfectly poised.

Lioli were further helped this weekend further by Matlama’s goalless draw with Bantu. It means the Independence Cup champions leapfrog the defending league champs Bantu into second place while Matlama stay stuttering.
Good times for Lioli
Those two are Lioli’s two biggest rivals for the title, Matlama perhaps less so

Lioli and Bantu certainly have the two best squads in Lesotho. Each week the two put out startingelevens packed with internationals. And although it’s still early in the seasonevery inch counts and if Lioli were to win their game in hand they would be four points ahead of Bantu already.

The other major story from the weekend’s action was the success of the two promoted teams, Likila United and Kick4Life. Both got huge wins, Likila beating Qoaling Highlanders 3-0 in Qoaling and Kick4life thrashing Nyenye Rovers 4-0 with young striker Thabiso Brown grabbing a hattrick.  The results mean Likila are in the top four, Kick4Life areseventh.

Both have been refreshing and entertaining.

In other results, Likhopo claimed a crucial win. They beat LMPS 2-1 to move out of the relegation zone. In Butha-Buthe, Linare got a similarly stress-relieving win, 1-0 victory over Sundawana.

The league takes a break this weekend with the final round of Africa Cup of Nations qualifying taking centre stage.

Matlama 0-0 Bantu
Sunday, 9 November
