Lioli throw cat amongst the pigeons

Vodacom Premier League is heating up
Lioli blew things wide open at the top of the Vodacom Premier League and positioned themselves once again as a frontrunner for the title with a 3-0 win over LDF at Setsoto Stadium yesterday.

For the previous two seasons the title has been a straight battle between Lioli and Bantu. In 2012/13 Lioli pipped Bantu to the title while last season Bantu finally broke through to win their first championship in club history.

It might be the same story again this term after Lioli’s comprehensive win over a previously undefeated LDF. Tse Nala were dominant from start to finish at Setsoto and the win over LDF is their second win succession after losing to Matlama three weekends ago. Lioli are now third, three points behind LDF, who still lead the standings. Crucially, however, Tse Nala have a game in hand.

Lioli’s win was also good news for reigning champions Bantu who thrashed Qoaling Highlanders 6-1 in Mafeteng on Saturday. It means second-placed A Matšo Matebele are now only two points drift of LDF. Once again Lioli and Bantu look poised to battle it out for Lesotho football’s most coveted prize.

In other weekend action, new-boys Likila collected another valuable point with a 0-0 draw at Nyenye Rovers yesterday. The result leapfrogged Likila over Matlama, who weren’t in action this week, into fifth.

Also on Sunday, Likhopo and Kick4Life played to a two-all draw at the LCS grounds. The two sides traded penalties in the first half and couldn’t be separated in an action-packed second half either. Kick4Life jump to ninth while Likhopo stay in the relegation zone.

Three matches – Linare v LMPS, LCS v Matlama and Mphatlalatsane v Sundawana – were not played because of heavy rains.

Weekend Results:
Saturday, 1 November
Nyenye Rovers 0-0 Likila
Bantu 6-1 Qoaling Highlanders
Likhopo 2-2 Kick4Life
Saturday, 2 November
Lioli 3-0 LDF
Linare v LMPS

Mphatlalatsane v Sundawana
