Bafana squad to face Senegal

Orlando Pirates players have been left out of the South Africa squad to face Senegal in a friendly international in Durban on Wednesday.

Pirates travel to Angola next weekend to face Recreativo do Libolo in the second leg of a preliminary Caf Champions League tie and Bucs players have been left out of Pitso Mosimane’s Bafana Bafana squad so they can focus on the match.

Pirates go into the match trailing 3-1 after a shock loss at home on Sunday in the first leg.

Mosimane added that it was important to support Pirates because it was a “national campaign”.

“We have decided to exclude Pirates’ players because they will be playing in Angola three days after our game,” Bafana coach Mosimane said at a press conference in Durban this morning.

“We have to support them because it is a national campaign. We know what happened in the South Africa when they won the Champions League in 1995,” he said.

The match will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium and it will be the Teranga Lions’ first game since their disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
