Thierry Dusautoir World Player of the Year

Thierry Dusautoir
France captain Thierry Dusautoir has been rewarded for his fine performances at the just ended Rugby World Cup by being named as the world player of the year at Monday’s IRB awards.

The metronomic loose-forward was outstanding throughout the tournament and scored a try in yesterday’s final as France threatened to pull off a shock against fancied New Zealand. Dusautoir was named man of the match in the 8-7 losing effort to the All Blacks.

The France captain beat off opposition from the All Black trio of Piri Weepu, Jerome Kaino and Ma’a Nonu and the Australia duo of David Pocock and Will Genia to land rugby’s top award.

Dusautoir joins a stellar list of past winners which includes Dan Carter, Jonny Wilkinson, Bryan Habana and Richie McCaw, who claimed the prize in 2009 and 2010.

The World Cup winners New Zealand meanwhile were expectedly crowned the team of the year while their coach, Graham Henry, landed coach of the year award.

England’s George Ford took home the junior player of the year award.
