Lesotho Premier League update

Matlama will face Lioli next Sunday in what will be the sides’ second meeting in less than a month. The two rivals played to a goalless draw in Teyateyaneng last Friday.

The match, which will be played at the Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena, is one of three that have been rearranged by the Premier League after they were postponed as a result of the Makoanyane XI’s numerous commitments over the past three months.

Matlama and Lioli have several key players involved in Lesotho’s under-20 set-up.

The other rescheduled games are Matlama’s match against Lerotholi which will be played tomorrow at the Central Prison and Likhopo’s trip to LCS on Sunday.

On Wednesday evening Likhopo beat Matlama 1-0 at Bambatha thanks to a first half goal by in-form Mojalefa Tšoeu.

The loss, their first since November, means Matlama have to beat Lerotholi tomorrow if they are maintain any realistic hopes of defending their crown, especially considering the form of league leaders LCS. Tse Putsoa have a game in hand on Masheshena but are 11 points behind with only a third of the season to go.

Matlama will face Lihale without talismanic starlet Litšepe Marabe who is struggling with a shoulder injury suffered on duty the national under-20 side last month. Tse Putsoa will be looking to avenge a shock 1-0 defeat to Lerotholi on the opening day of the season last September.

On Sunday Likhopo could confirm their title credentials with a win at the home of leaders LCS. Likhopo, champions in 2004/05 and 2005/06, are ten points behind Masheshena but have two games in hand. LCS however are on a six-match winning streak and have scored 13 goals in their last three outings.

• South Africa has been confirmed as the hosts of the Caf 2011 African Youth Championship and have replaced Libya in the tournament. It means Amajita will line-up in Group A alongside Lesotho, Egypt and Mali. Group B meanwhile consists of world champions and holders Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon and Gambia.

Caf earlier stripped Libya of its host status because of the on-going chaos in the North African country. The tournament will be played from April 17 to May 2.
